Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use Edezco Market Place, why we collect it, who we share it with and the rights you have. We process personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and the guidance of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).
1. Who we are
Edezco Market Place ("Edezco", "we", "us") is operated by Edezco Enterprise, ChurchGates, Abuja, FCT, Nigeria. Edezco decides how and why your personal data is used, so it is the data controller.
The platform is built and maintained for us by JE Tech Limited. JE Tech processes data only on our instructions, as our data processor.
For anything about your data, email support@jetechltd.com.ng or use Message Edezco Admin in your dashboard.
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: your name or business name, email address, phone number, password and account type (buyer, individual seller or registered business). Your password is stored only in encrypted (hashed) form.
- Google sign-in: if you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile photo from Google. We never see your Google password.
- Profile details: your photo, street address and area, and shop details (name, description, opening hours, safe inspection place). We also store your notification choices.
- Verification, only if you choose to get verified:
- Level 1: your phone number, confirmed by SMS code.
- Level 2: your National Identification Number (NIN), which we store masked, and a selfie.
- Level 3: your CAC registration number, registered business name and documents.
- Level 4: your shop address and proof of address. An agent may also visit your shop and take photos.
- Supplier details, for businesses that turn on Supply & procurement: your business bank name, account number and account name, plus the purchase orders, delivery notes and invoices you upload.
- Ads: titles, descriptions, prices, location, item details and photos. We compress each photo and add a visible "EDEZCO MARKET" watermark. We also store a digital fingerprint of each photo so the same photo can't be reused in someone else's ad.
- Messages and activity: chats between buyers and sellers, including photos, offers and quotes. We also store service bookings and their history, reviews and replies, reports, support tickets, saved ads, follows, blocked users and search alerts.
- State waitlist: your name, phone number or email, and the state you want us to launch in.
- AI sales assistant: the questions you type into "Ask Edezco AI".
Information collected automatically
- Technical data: our hosting and database providers record your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you request, and the date and time. They use these records to keep the service running and secure.
- Data stored on your device: we keep your sign-in session and a few preferences in your browser. Our Cookie Policy explains this. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
Information from others
- Other users may report you, review you, or mention you in a chat.
- Our Abuja business directory includes business names, sectors and addresses from public sources, which we credit on each entry. A business can claim, correct or ask us to remove its entry at any time.
3. How we use your data
- To run your account and let you post ads, chat, make offers, book services, and send or receive purchase orders.
- To verify identities and businesses. Verification badges help buyers decide who to trust.
- To keep the marketplace safe:
- We review new ads before they go live.
- Edezco Shield scans chats for known scam phrases, such as requests for a deposit before inspection, and warns both people.
- We flag prices far below market, detect reused photos, and investigate reports. We suspend accounts that break our rules.
- To check supply payment requests. Before a request reaches the buyer, we compare the supplier's bank account name with the CAC record.
- To send you notifications about your chats, offers, bookings, orders, reviews, verification, search-alert matches and launches in your state. You choose SMS, email and app alerts in Edit profile.
- To answer support requests and handle complaints and disputes.
- To improve Edezco using overall statistics, such as how many ads are posted each day.
- To meet legal duties and respond to lawful requests from Nigerian authorities.
We do not make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you based solely on automated processing. Automatic checks flag things for review, and a member of our team makes the final decision on verification, ad removal and suspension.
4. Our lawful basis
| What we do | Lawful basis under the NDPA |
|---|---|
| Running your account, ads, chats, bookings and orders | Performance of our contract with you (our Terms) |
| Identity, business and address verification, including NIN and selfie | Your consent, given when you submit them. You can withdraw it at any time; your badge is then removed. |
| Scam detection, moderation, duplicate-photo checks and security logs | Our legitimate interest, and yours, in a safe marketplace |
| State waitlist and optional notifications | Your consent |
| Keeping records and responding to authorities | Legal obligation |
5. Who we share your data with
We never sell your personal data. We share it only as follows.
- Other users, as the marketplace requires:
- Your public profile shows your name or shop name, photo, area, verification level, ratings and ads.
- Your phone number is shown only if you switch on "Show my phone number on my ads".
- People you chat with see your messages.
- A buyer sees a supplier's bank details only on a payment request that Edezco Admin has approved.
- Your NIN, selfie and verification documents are never shown to other users.
- Service providers who process data for us:
- Supabase: database, sign-in and file storage.
- Vercel: website hosting.
- Google: only if you choose Google sign-in.
- SMS and email delivery providers: for codes and notifications.
- Anthropic: if the AI assistant is switched on, it receives your question and short summaries of matching ads. It does not receive your name, contact details or verification data.
- JE Tech Limited: builds and maintains the platform.
- Authorities: we disclose data when Nigerian law requires it, or to prevent fraud or protect someone's safety.
- Business changes: if Edezco is reorganised or sold, your data may pass to the new operator under this policy. We will tell you first.
6. International transfers
Some of our providers store or process data outside Nigeria, for example in the European Union or the United States. When this happens, we rely on the safeguards allowed by Part VIII of the NDPA, such as contractual clauses with the provider and countries with adequate data protection. You can ask us for details.
7. How long we keep your data
| Data | How long |
|---|---|
| Account and profile | While your account is open. Deleted within 90 days after you close it, except records we must keep by law. |
| Selfies and ID or business documents | Deleted 30 days after we make a verification decision. We keep only the result, such as "NIN verified on 4 Nov 2026". |
| Ads and their photos | While the ad is live, paused or sold, then up to 12 months after deletion for fraud checks |
| Chats, offers, bookings and reports | Up to 2 years after the last message, so we can investigate complaints and scams |
| Purchase orders, delivery notes, invoices and payment requests | 6 years, for business and tax records |
| Support tickets | 2 years after the ticket is resolved |
| State waitlist | Until we launch in your state, or until you ask us to remove you |

| AI assistant questions | Not stored in your account. Our provider may keep them for up to 30 days for safety monitoring. |
8. How we protect your data
- All traffic is encrypted with HTTPS, and passwords are hashed.
- Database rules make sure each person can see only their own private data. Only Edezco admins can open verification documents, through links that expire after one hour, and every view is logged.
- Verification documents and supply documents are kept in private storage, separate from public ad photos.
- Admin accounts are limited to authorised staff.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach is likely to put your rights at risk, we will notify the NDPC within 72 hours and tell you without undue delay, as the NDPA requires.
9. Your rights
Under the NDPA you have the right to:
- Access your personal data and get a copy of it
- Correct data that is wrong or incomplete. You can edit most of it yourself in Edit profile. Email changes go through Edezco Admin for your security.
- Delete your data, or close your account
- Restrict or object to how we use your data, including processing based on our legitimate interests
- Data portability: receive your data in a common, machine-readable format
- Withdraw consent at any time. This does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it.
- Complain to the NDPC at ndpc.gov.ng if you are unhappy with how we handle your data
To use any of these rights, email support@jetechltd.com.ng with the subject "Edezco data request", or message Edezco Admin from your dashboard. We may ask you to confirm your identity. We reply within 30 days.
10. Children
Edezco Market Place is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has an account, tell us and we will remove it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our service or the law changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
